Have you been invited to an ugly sweater party? Don’t miss out because you have nothing to wear!
Some people really get into the whole ugly sweater party thing…
Honestly, I had never even heard of such parties before I attended college (to be fair, I grew up quite sheltered). However, it seems to be a tradition for people to throw parties where everyone dresses up in “ugly” Holiday/Christmas sweaters – you know, like the ones your grandparents would wear during family get togethers?
The thing is, I never realized how incredibly popular they were until I started working retail in the fashion industry! Holy smokes!
Every year in December, floods of people (okay, mostly college kids…) would come in asking “Do you have any ugly sweaters?” It seemed sometimes even they weren’t quite sure what they were looking or – only that they had been invited to one of these aforementioned parties and they needed to find something – anything – to wear.
I realize the point is to wear the most ridiculous, tacky xmas/winter/holiday sweater you can possibly find (or make!), but it’s not like we carried anything ridiculous (most stores don’t).
We really only carried these winter themed button up sweatshirts for women, they weren’t actual sweaters – but more like a cardigan made of cheap sweatshirt material with designs such as snowmen, snowflakes, or gingerbread men printed across the front. They were more just something an older lady would wear during the holidays/wintertime as opposed to a super tacky sweater…
So if you’re anticipating attending an ugly Christmas sweater party this year and don’t have anything to wear, don’t procrastinate the search!
You really need to either:
- Search the internet (There’s a TON!)
- Shop in thrift stores (May be tricky to find…hit or miss)
- Or make your own! (If you’re crafty)
You’re not going to find one at just any retail shop you walk into!
The great thing about the internet is they even carry so many LONG holiday sweaters (and some with long sleeves, too!) that are great if you’re a TALL girl like me, or if you wanted to pair it with leggings.
Whether you need a festive Christmas sweatshirt for an ugly sweater party (or maybe you just really want one) – I would advise you get one ASAP!
I remember we were completely sold out of holiday sweaters by mid-December at the retail shop I worked at – so don’t hesitate!
I recommend taking a look over at Amazon, they have a huge selection for women – even us tall gals can get away with many of the jumper/sweater dress options!
