Product: Fashion Forms Women’s Ultra Lite Strapless Backless Bra
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
Where to buy: Find it on Amazon
Introduction
My first encounter with a backless strapless bra was back when I worked in the clothing department at a local chain department store, I had never heard of them before and was curious. My co-worker removed one out of the package and told me to feel the inside of the cups. It was sort of crazy feeling, I couldn’t imagine having that sticking against my breasts all day long.
However crazy, the idea intrigued me and I did further research, and ultimately decided on purchasing this Fashion forms bra from Amazon (pretty similar to the ones we had at work, but a bit cheaper). The reviews were pretty decent so I thought I could give it a shot, if I could find something to replace a strapless bra with, it’d be worth the try.
Initial Feelings
First of all, you can’t put this bra on if you have any body oil or lotions on your skin, as it will affect the adhesive. It’s really important to clean your chest and make sure it’s completely dry before attempting to wear. It’s not a big deal for me since I never wear body lotion on my chest, but if you are the type of girl that likes to, be aware you can’t with this bra.
This bra is actually a bit difficult to put on, you have to align the cups just right on your chest and squeeze them in place. It takes some time to get used to it.
It didn’t do anything to lift up my breasts, (there’s no under-wire or straps here so of course gravity will push it down). But it did give me some level of protection. Having a larger chest, it’s hard to get away with wearing no bra at all, and of course I have to deal with my nipples poking out of my top. This definitely takes care of that and sort of smooths things out a bit.
Not sweat proof!
The adhesive is relatively strong, but I noticed it starting to slip after I was moving around for awhile. I actually sweat quite a bit under my chest, but I imagine if you don’t really sweat, or at least if you weren’t going to be using it while doing physical activity it would be OK.
Removal of this bra is painful!
When taking it off, it hurt. Like a lot. Have you ever used that Nads gel stuff for hair removal? It felt like that–not quite as intense as hot wax, but still pretty darn uncomfortable! Also, you need to immediately wash it by hand afterwards. (After each and every use). I’m not sure how many uses you could get out of this thing for sure, I only wore it once and never will again. I imagine if you took proper care of it, it’d last you for quite a few uses, but most certainly not forever.
This definitely will not be able to replace a strapless bra. I think the real issue here is my chest is too big. I can see this working well with smaller chested girls, like A or B cups, for occasional use. Yeah, occasional. Don’t try to use it as your everyday bra.
To sum it up:
Pros
- It will provide a decent barrier between your chest and your clothing, providing a smooth look and eliminating any nipple peek a boo action.
- You’ll be able to avoid the straps and back of your bra that would otherwise show when wearing strapless, low cut tops and dresses.
Cons
- Will not provide any amount of lift or support.
- Adhesive will weaken/slip when in contact with sweat.
- Doesn’t last as long as a regular bra, and needs regular care.
- Hurts to take it off!
When it’d work best:
- For small chested girls, preferably B cup or smaller
- When worn as a temporary fix, probably best for a few hours of wear (like just for an event) as opposed to all day.
Final Thoughts
It’s important to realize this bra isn’t meant to replace a normal bra, and it won’t last forever. That being said, if you’ve read this review and think it’d be a good fit for you, then give it a try! But remember, I would only recommend this to girls with smaller chests. If you need any type of support definitely don’t go for this. I’d recommend trying a regular strapless or low back bra.
