Let’s face it, finding tall women’s clothing that’s cheap is hard. And if you want anything that will actually hold up to lots of washing and wearing, it can be even more difficult.
While there are many retailers that sell clothing fitted for taller than average women, and others that offer longer inseams, they’re not all super affordable for everyone.
Fortunately, there are a few budget-friendly options for tall ladies these days considering even retailers like Old Navy and JCPenny have their own tall women’s clothing lines (found on their websites, not in store).
So if you’re tall and trying to shop on a budget, the good news is you have options!
How to pick clothes that will last longer when shopping cheap
First thing first, let’s talk about fabric.
I’m all for cheap clothing finds, but when you’re shopping at a low price point there are some basics about clothing materials to keep in mind. This can help when it comes to deciding which pieces to buy that may outlast others.
In general, certain fabrics are more durable, hold their shape, and won’t fall apart as easily as others.
Unfortunately, I had to find all this out through trial and error. I purchased so many inexpensive items over the years that were just total pieces of crap, but at least now I know what types of things to avoid.
Always check the materials/fabric and care!
This information is almost always listed somewhere within the product description. Knowing this will help you understand a bit more about how durable the item may be, as well as how it will wash and wear.
Steer clear of 100% cotton when you’re buying super cheap clothing staples
It took me awhile to learn this lesson, but I won’t buy cheap basic t-shirts, tanks, or even bottoms that are pure 100% cotton, especially from places like Old Navy or unknown sellers on Amazon.
In general, cotton isn’t the most durable fabric. It’s true that the quality of cotton can vary drastically depending on how its made, but when you’re talking about clothing that’s being sold for less than $10 an item, it’s obviously pretty cheap stuff.
This is especially true for basics like tanks and tees – out of all the clothing items I’ve bought throughout the years, these are the things that have been pretty much consistently terrible.
Look for cotton with spandex
Cotton that has spandex blended with it tends to hold up much better. I’m not sure why, but it helps it retain shape after washing over and over again. It also seems a little more durable.
Fabric blends can hold up better
Blended fabrics are much better for durability, especially blends that contain polyester.
You see, the thing about polyester is that it’s very durable, odor and sweat resistant (which makes it great for workout clothing), and doesn’t wrinkle.
I’m not typically the biggest fan of polyester in general, but it does have some nice qualities to it. And when it’s blended with other fabrics like cotton and spandex (or rayon), it makes it a much softer and more wearable material.
And because these fabric blends are also very cheap, it feels like you’re getting more for your money. Cheap clothing that can withstand being washed over and over again is a total win.

Places you can find AFFORDABLE clothing for tall women
Old Navy
This is a great go-to place to check for clothes when you’re tall and trying to shop on the cheap. One of the things I love about Old Navy is they have such an expansive tall section!
Shirts, tanks, sweaters, leggings, joggers, jeans, dresses, etc. – they have it all.
I can often stock up and grab a lot of great stuff for under $150 total. When other specialty tall shops like Long Tall Sally are $50 – $100 PER item, Old Navy is a godsend.
You can purchase basics like long tank tops and leggings for under $10 each, and even many of their shirts are under $20.
Some of their basics are super nice, too – these layering tanks hold up well. I’ve had several for years and they wash and wear over and over again without stretching out, losing shape, or fading much.
These high neck swing tanks are super nice! I love that they don’t show any cleavage, aren’t skin tight, and the tall size length even covers my butt.
I had a few I wore and wash constantly for 3 years and they lasted that long before they started to wear out. For $10 a shirt it’s a pretty decent lifespan.
Their sweatpants/joggers are a great buy as well. These jogger style sweatpants are super cozy and comfortable and decent quality for the price point (especially if you can get them on sale).
Their leggings are an incredibly steal, but also very cheap quality. They’re a lot thinner than other brands and tend to get holes easily. But when you can get them for under $8 on sale, it can be hard to pass up. Just know they may not withstand the test of time. Check their leggings here.
Jeans are often on sale for under $30 a pair, and dresses as well. You can grab basic dresses for under $20.
Even jackets and heavy coats are affordable, often around $60 retail price. But you can get them on sale for less.
The thing to keep in mind with their jeans in particular is they offer both tall AND long inseams – some styles may have tall options, while others just long. Their long inseam is shorter than the tall by about 2 inches. For bootcut styles, a long inseam is 34” and a tall is 36”. For skinny styles a long is 32” and tall is 34”.

JCPenny
Another great place to check when it comes to look for affordable clothing is JCPenny. They also have a fairly decent tall line on their website, made for women who are 5’10 and up.
I feel like they don’t have quite the same selection as Old Navy – Old Navy has a generally more younger feel to their clothing style, while JCPenny’s is a bit more mature.
But they can still be a great place to check for basics like tees and tanks, as well as nicer items like sweaters, blazers, pants, and jackets!
The price point is similar to Old Navy – you can grab jeans for around $20 and most tops for under $20. A lot of their basics are under $15.
Their workout clothing is also pretty decent and super inexpensive. You can get workout tanks on sale for less than $10, and sometimes even $5 or $6 on clearance!
Nicer items like dressy tops, slacks, blazers, and jackets are somewhere within the $30 – $50+ range, but still pretty good deals comparatively.

ThreadUp
If you love shopping second hand, ThredUp is a huge online consignment shop that even lets you shop by specialty sizes like tall!
They have a lot of brands like Old Navy, Gap, J. Crew, ASOS, Ann Taylor, and even Long Tall Sally.
Because it’s consignment, they typically only have one of each item so the sizes are a lot more limited. But if you love the thrill of consignment shopping, definitely check out ThreadUp if you haven’t already heard of it.
I don’t think it’s worth it if you’re just looking for brands like Old Navy (you can buy Old Navy clothing cheaper on sale at Old Navy than you can at ThreadUp!) However when it comes to shopping the more expensive brands, ThreadUp can be a awesome way to save money.
Alloy Apparel
Alloy isn’t the most affordable option of the bunch, but I wanted them to be included in this list because many of their items are moderately priced – under $40 or $50. Their basic leggings are under $30.
Plus, they carry a 37” inseam for pants like jeans, joggers, and leggings – which is very difficult to find.
They don’t have the most extensive selection, but they do have a lot of different types of pants. If you need the longer inseam, they are a go to place to check. They carry mostly 37” inseam but a few 35” as well.
They have leggings (casual and active), joggers, sleep pants, work/dress pants, jeans, patterned pants, and more! They also carry a few dresses, blazers, and basic tops.
Their items sell out pretty quick, so you have to keep a careful watch on stuff and grab it while it’s new if you want to make sure your size is available.

Amazon
Amazon probably isn’t the first place you think of when you think of tall clothing, but they surprisingly have a lot of options. If you’re looking for longer length yoga pants, joggers, or leggings – you can find them here! And for great prices too!
SEVEGO Women’s 20” 32” and 34” inseam joggers
Yogispace bootcut yoga pants – extended inseams 33” 35” and 37” (long, tall, and extra tall)
Yogispace Side Pocket Active Leggings – 34” and 36” inseams
AWULIFFAN Summer sleeveless tunic top
Basic 3 set spaghetti strap layering tanks (long lengths)
These tanks are pretty thin, but would work well for layering. Plus, they’re long – the size XL measures 29”. Always reference size charts and measure to make sure they’ll work for your body type.
AUSELILY Women Summer Tank Dress
They even have some great options for dresses and shirts that would work for tall ladies as well. These tank dresses are great and are very versatile. They would work great to pair with leggings or as a swim cover up, and you could even dress it up for a night out! They come in so many different colors and patterns!
Shop outside the box
While the retailers mentioned here do carry a decent variety of options, there other ways to find clothing online if you’re on the hunt for specialty tall sizes and don’t want to spend a ton of cash.
If you’re on Facebook, there are tons of buy/sell clothing groups – including specific ones for tall ladies!
USA based buy/sell groups for tall clothing
- Tall Women USA – Clothes to Buy/Sell/Trade
- Long Tall Sally Buy/Sell/Trade USA
- TALL AF – Tall Women’s Shoes and Clothing Buy and Sell
- Torrid Addicts (plus size clothing buy/sell group, but also appropriate for tall plus size ladies)
UK based tall clothing buy and sell groups
- Long Tall Sally Buy/Sell/Trade (UK-based)
- Pre-loved Long Tall Sally Clothing
Facebook buy and sell clothing groups are a completely alternative way to shop, and you can browse posts on a daily basis to keep an eye out. You can also sell any items in your closet that no longer fit or you just don’t like anymore to make some extra cash to buy new clothes!
They can be a great way to find dresses (even wedding and bridesmaid dresses), jackets and coats, and larger women’s shoes (sizes 10+). But people are selling all sorts of different things all the time.
The thing to keep in mind is that these groups all have very specific rules, so make sure you read through them entirely before trying to purchase or sell anything.

The Bottom Line
Locating specialty tall clothing that’s more affordable is possible if you know where to shop. If you look for more durable fabric and fabric blends, you can find some pretty decent items that should last awhile for the price!
Do you have any other favorite (inexpensive) tall clothing sources? I’d love to hear about any new ones!
